our first ultrasound, or, meet the Netflix n’ Chill baby

8th Jan ' 18

I was so looking forward to our first ultrasound.

I got up and did my hair, put on a cute outfit, and we drove the few miles in -8 weather to the clinic.

“I know one thing, the baby is going to be cute” the front desk clerk remarked. I wanted to kiss her.

They called us back.

Our tech was cheerful, chipper, and very sweet. We settled into our room, dimly lit, and held our breathes while a grainy black and white image appeared on a screen.

A tiny figure.

Silhouetted inside an oblong oval.

A flutter of a heart.

“Hi baby!”

Miraculous. Wonderful. Thank you, Lord.

I’ll skip the part about the vaginal ultrasound and how the doctor came in and didn’t even say hello to us 😉 But, it’s cool to see your ovaries. I’m not going to lie about that one bit.

We have a healthy, happy baby. With a very healthy heartbeat.

See also how it lays on its side. It’s into chilling. It’s our very own Netflix n’ Chill baby.
