I shared a little more about our recent trip in a post about road trip tips for a baby. We had a fun trip to the Black Hills {P’s second time} last weekend. I say the word “trip” instead of “vacation,” because I’ve learned that as a parent, leaving home and our routine often means we aren’t resting as much as normal. I see a vacation as a time where you sleep in and lay around in laziness, traveling with a baby doesn’t include those things, but it is still fun and worth it:
Keely and Simon asked us to join them on a St. Patrick’s Day weekend trip, and while I wanted to say “no,” I decided to say “YES!” instead 🙂 I am trying to say “yes” more, and to be an ‘adventure mom.’ Simon and Keely found this stunning rental home nestled in the hills outside of Spearfish. It was gorgeous and the perfect place to stay.
P ended up sleeping about half the night in her travel crib and then would finish with us in the big bed. It wasn’t ideal, and I didn’t get as much rest as I normally do, but we went with it. The corner of the backyard backed up to a cow pasture and P got to see cows for the first time. That was worth all the lack of sleep, I love watching her experience new things.
This rental had a cozy, gas fireplace that P loved watching. We brought our Bumbo chair this trip and I am so glad we did. It easy for her to sit in it and eat plus it was a place to keep her propped up.
The most glorious part of the trip was the weather. It was sunny, warm, and in the 40s-50s each day. Such a breath of fresh, spring air for us Minnesotans. While the other adults snow shoed, P and I stayed in and enjoyed snuggling on the couch, watching the fire, and taking walks.
It was wonderful, happy trip and I’m so glad we went despite not wanting the hassle of traveling with a baby.
It is always worth it.
