August Review

19th Sep ' 19

This month felt long! We did so much, got lots done, did fun things, and had a bit of quiet after Priscilla’s party. I am grateful for quiet and still days and evenings at home, especially as my busy season for work begins to pick up. I know September and October will be a blur.

We had fun doing some social media-branding work Huggie’s. Grace, Luca, Leah, and Judah joined us downtown and we had a fun afternoon grabbing lunch and letting the little ones splash in Peavy plaza.

Cilla and I sweated up and down the hills of Stillwater. Or, I should say I sweated. Speaking of exercise, after over a year and a half gone, I signed up for CrossFit. I have had a few new sessions at my new gym and love it. It feels so good to be “back.”

I’ve been learning how to shoot in our house and it has been SO fun, I love all the different light here. Most of our rooms are a dark green, but there’s a few rooms that are bright and white. Of all places, I took these photos of Cilla in our twin bed guest room’s ensuite bathroom. It’s small, down one step (no idea why), and sort of tucked away. You can find great light in so many, unexpected places:

I finally got to try out a milk bath! I am excited to do one in one of our tubs at some point, but this little outdoor one was perfect. I am addicted to Priscilla wearing bonnets:

We tried out a smash cake in honor of Priscilla turning one. She was unimpressed, but curious. I’m proud of Seth and I for not eating the entire thing 🙂

I somehow was able to convince Seth to take us to the State Fair. This was Priscilla’s first visit. Last year, after she was born I somehow thought we would take her as a newborn. So crazy. I know my friend Leah has done that, but we ended up not going, but I commend moms who take itty bitty babies to the Great Minnesotan Get Together. She was the perfect age to go: we wore her in the baby carrier, nursed her on a bench by the blue barn, let her pet animals, and try all my favorite fair foods. She was a huge fan of the key lime pie. The weather was perfectly cool, breezy, and lovely. I’m so glad we went and want to go again next year with a two year old!

Our biggest excitement of the month was visiting the Black Hills (again) for Simon and Keeley’s wedding! We are so beyond thrilled for them, and joyous that we are getting married a little over a month apart from each other. For close friends like Simon and Seth, this is something sweet to share. We had an amazing drive out, stayed in Worthington with Seth’s mom and dad for a night, and then pulled up to our cute vintage cabin on Friday evening of Labor Day Weekend. I found this little gem on Air BnB and it was full of rustic, nostalgic charm:

While Priscilla didn’t sleep well (so neither did we!), it was still a fun trip. Most of all, it was very special to see Simon and Keeley get married. We are thrilled for them and I am glad I was able to take a few photos for them to remember the day by. We spent our final day in the Hills exploring as a family. Priscilla was less impressed with the reptile zoo, but appreciated downtown Deadwood.

August was a wonderful month for us and flew by! We will miss summer, but are glad we got to spend so much time together and settling into our new home.

I’d love to see you over on Instagram, follow along with my daily photos here:

Sharing my heart on moving from the city on the blog this morning. ⁣

“Much of my identity has been wrapped up in being a city dwelling lady and mama. I take quite a bit (maybe too much) pride in not being “basic,” as if enjoying things many others do is a sin. It’s not. I don’t believe I’ll ever be cookie cutter, but I’m finding myself settling in and loving non city life quite a bit. It doesn’t hurt, this magical house. I’ve longed for and wanted to live in an old home for my entire adult life. I love Victorians. This particular house has so many unique, interesting, lovely features that it would be impossible not to adore it [...]” ⁣

e l e v e n MONTHS | I still can scarcely believe it. Wasn’t she just born six, four, two months ago?!? The mama time warp is real and it feels too much like that scene in Interstellar when part of the crew has been gone minutes but that one man waited years 👀 Priscilla is 100 percent of whatever: loves to eat, nurses still 🙌🏽, big into clapping, learned how to wave, likes to take her bows out and then tries to put them back in, adores when da-da comes come, and is my little intense co-worker. I’m so in love. 🐳

right on the cusp of crawling and full of wonder for the living room curtains 👧🏻

I’d be lying if I said the bathtubs with window light didn’t sell me on this house 💁🏽‍♀️👏🏽 making all my bath session dreams come true!
