We celebrated a wonderful second birthday for Cilla this weekend with just grandparents. We were planning on making her birthday this year smaller and more low-key, but Covid made that a necessity. During much of the year we weren’t able to see any relatives, so it was special for Cilla to have our parents at our house.
Despite being low key I was a slight psycho party mom and did go a bit out with decor. I love planning parties, and told Seth last night after it was done that I now don’t have much to look forward to until fall. I love creating special memories for our Cilla bug.
A friend of mine made this incredible balloon arch. I would have attempted one myself, but figured at six weeks postpartum with a newborn that I might not have the energy to learn a new skill. When Cilla saw it she was so delighted!
We had everything ready to go by nap time. I was so grateful that LJ took a good morning nap and that Seth did so much as well. I broke other tasks up into days the week before so I wouldn’t be overwhelmed.
For Cilla’s second birthday I went with a blue and bear theme. Blue because it looks so beautiful on her, and I had already purchased her birthday outfit. Bear because we like to call her our bear and it was one of the first animal sounds she learned to say. That’s it, simple 🙂
For her cake I pinned a few idea within the theme and had Cilla choose. She loves to help bake so we make a boxed funfetti cake mix together on Friday and then the frosting on Saturday morning. I did end up getting a set of 6-inch cake pans to make small and smash cakes possible. I love how it turned out. I figure I’ll be making quite a few of these in the coming years so it made sense to just get the pans.
She adored her cake as well and had so much fun picking berries off of it and loved “helping” blow out her candles with the help of da-da. She seemed to really sort of “get” what we were doing and was delighted by the whole process.
It was so special to have a family gathering again. We haven’t had one since Christmas, which was long before we painted our dining room.
It was such a joy to watch Cilla open up her gifts. She is a big fan of the giant slinky, balance bike, and water painting book {my mess hating mama heart loves these so much!}. My mother in law was so intentional about getting her a few gifts that she can do inside during the winter. We are anticipating more restrictions as the fall and winter arrives so I am grateful for some fun things to do at home. My dad gave her the cutest dress and knocked it out of the park with some stunning books from the Red Balloon Book Shop {a place I used to love to go as a girl!}.
I cannot wait to see what year two brings! Cilla is a true joy and mothering her is my dream come true. I am forever grateful to be her mother.
