I rounded out last week by finishing up this delectable little jumper for Penny. I used some olive green linen from iseefabric, and found this Soor Ploom knock off pattern on Etsy. It definitely was a bit of a guess and prayer toward the end. I didn’t feel confident in the pattern’s instructions for finishing up the binding and straps, but I (sort of) made it work. Despite its confusion, I truly love how this piece turned out. It’s exactly what I envisioned– a perfect transitional piece to carry from summer into autumn, and I love how it fits and hangs.
It was chilly enough Saturday morning for Penny to wear it with a sweater, but by afternoon we were headed to a little county fair and she needed something lighter. I paired it with a hand me down ringer t-shirt the boys had and was surprised at how cute that looked, too. I haven’t chosen my next sewing project, but did purchase a pattern that I think will be great for Christmas dresses for the girls.
I started this whole sewing journey this summer with the hope that I’d build up enough skill to make some beautiful dresses for the holiday season. I had a very specific vision in mind: linen, long sleeved peter pan collar dresses underneath linen pinafores. I’ve been working through some prototypes for these and the check dress I made Cilla will work as the pinafore portion I am hoping. The new pattern I found a few days ago might work for underneath, we’ll see. A friend and I have a trip planned to a fabric outlet, SR Harris, soon and I am hoping to find some more optimal pricing on both linen and Liberty fabric. I love this new (revived) hobby.

These stunning gowns from LaPetiteAlice (also on Etsy) are my inspiration for Christmas for the girls. I’d love to find some brown leather lace up’s for Penny, but she has absolutely tiny feet for her age so finding shoes has been a bit tricky. I’m not ready to give up, yet! Ah, I love summer and also dreaming about all things holiday.
